Our Steel Window Refurbishment Services
We offer two primary options for steel window refurbishment:
Ease and Adjust Service:
This cost-effective solution is ideal for addressing minor issues and extending the lifespan of your existing steel windows. Our “ease and adjust” service includes:
- Paint Removal: We carefully remove excess paint buildup from meeting surfaces, restoring proper closure. This often resolves issues caused by multiple layers of paint accumulated over time.
- Rust Treatment: We apply rust inhibitor (red oxide or galvafroid paint) to protect the exposed steel and prevent further corrosion.
- Frame Adjustment: We attempt to correct minor twists in the frames, although this carries a risk of glass breakage.
- Glazing Replacement: We can replace broken or damaged glass, including traditional leaded glazing with antique glass to match the original style.
- Ironmongery Replacement: We replace broken or defective ironmongery with currently available fittings or manufacture bespoke ironmongery if needed.
- Draught Proofing: We install polyurethane draught proofing (or mastic tape-backed neoprene/foam) to minimize drafts.
Please note: Painting is not included in this service. We recommend engaging a professional painter for final decoration.
Full Steel Window Refurbishment (Factory Overhaul):
For windows requiring more extensive work, our full refurbishment service involves removing the windows and taking them to our factory:
- Removal and Boarding/Temporary Glazing: We carefully remove the windows and provide temporary boarding or glazing for the openings.
- Deglazing: We remove all glass from the frames.
- Shot Blasting: We shot blast the frames back to bare metal, removing all rust and old paint.
- Rust Treatment and Metal Repair: We treat any corroded sections and weld in replacement steel as needed.
- Galvanizing: Frames are wet galvanized for long-lasting corrosion protection.
- Epoxy Powder Coating: We apply a durable epoxy powder coat finish in your chosen color.
- Glazing Options: We offer a range of glazing options, including slimlite double-glazed units and genuine antique glass for leaded lights.
- Reinstallation: We reinstall the fully refurbished windows into the original openings.
Sub Frame Refurbishment: We do not handle timber sub-frame refurbishment, but we can supply and install new hardwood or oak sub-frames.
