Heritage and Historical Steel Window & Doors
Heritage and Historical Steel Window & Door authentic restoration or replacement
Replacing Heritage Steel Windows and Doors
While preservation is ideal, sometimes replacement is necessary. Historical societies work to ensure that any replacements maintain the integrity of the building’s original design.
Considerations for replacement:
- Balancing modern performance standards with historical authenticity
- Use of materials that match the original as closely as possible
- Adherence to original designs and manufacturing techniques

Fire Rated Heritage Steel Doors
Safety is paramount in heritage buildings, and fire-rated steel doors play a crucial role in meeting modern safety standards while preserving historical aesthetics.
Features of fire-rated heritage steel doors:
- Compliance with current building regulations
- Minimum 30-minute fire resistance
- Designs that complement the building’s original architecture
Old Heritage Metal Frame Windows
Metal frame windows, particularly those made of steel, are a hallmark of many heritage buildings. Historical societies work to educate property owners on the value of these windows and how to maintain them.
Characteristics of old heritage metal frame windows:
- Potential for restoration rather than replacement
- Slim profiles and elegant sightlines
- Durability and longevity when properly maintained

Heritage Windows & Doors Projects and Case Studies
Carlton Works – Rejuvenated Cinema Building
Needed: Heritage of the building preserved.
This building used to be an old derelict cinema building which the developer gained permission to change into high end luxury apartments.
The client was keen to ensure that the heritage of the building was preserved and so he wanted to install steel windows as they were in keeping with what the original windows would have been.
We manufactured and installed new double glazed windows and doors from our Parliament steel profiles as we could achieve a very slender aesthetic using true ‘T bar’ glazing bars.
The windows were hot dip galvanised and then powder coated black (RAL 9005 matt) and had 16 mm double glazed insulating units which had 4 mm soft coat glass to the inner pane, 8 mm Krypton gas with a black warm edge spacer/ to the cavity and 4 mm low iron glass on the outer pane. This ensured that the windows achieved a 1.2 W/m2K centre pane U value and thus met current building regulations.
The front facade has two opening inwards single doors to create Juliet balconies.
The rear elevation has a number of double doors to the ground floor and the penthouse has a single door in a ‘raw’ steel finish.
Brighton Station Refurbishment
Needed: Heritage of the building preserved.
We were asked to manufacture, supply and install new Steel windows and doors to the station at Brighton as it was undergoing a major refurbishment.
The remit for this project was to match some windows and doors previously installed.
We supplied and installed our steel windows and doors using the W20 suite of profiles as they were the closest match.
The windows and doors are single glazed as they are located on the station foyer under a covered roof .
The double doors whilst very slim are around 3 metres tall. This exceeds our maximum manufacturing height by some distance however due to the slender width we were happy to manufacture these.
Steel Windows and Doors since 1996
All of our products are purpose made and we manufacture steel windows, steel doors, steel internal partitions, steel fire rated doors and door screens, steel sliding doors and steel shaped windows and doors.
